Title: King's Cage Series: Red Queen Series (#3) Author: Victoria Aveyard Release Date: February 7, 2017 Publisher: HarperCollins Publishers Genre: Young Adult Fantasy My Rating: 4.5 / 5 Synopsis: Mare Barrow is a prisoner, powerless without her lightning, tormented by her lethal mistakes. She lives at the mercy of a boy she once loved, a boy made of lies and betrayal. Now a king, Maven Calore continues weaving his dead mother's web in an attempt to maintain control over his country—and his prisoner. As Mare bears the weight of Silent Stone in the palace, her once-ragtag band of newbloods and Reds continues organizing, training, and expanding. They prepare for war, no longer able to linger in the shadows. And Cal, the exiled prince with his own claim on Mare's heart, will stop at nothing to bring her back. When blood turns on blood, and ability on ability, there may be no one left to put out the fire—leaving Norta as Mare knows it to burn all the way down. (source)
“The crushing weight of silence hangs heavy as always. For a moment it’s too difficult to breathe, and I wonder if this is how I die. Drowned in this bed of silk, burned by a king’s obsession, smothered by open air.”
Let me start off by saying that I had high expectations for this book. I wasn’t a huge fan of the previous installment, Glass Sword, because for one, it slowly paced; second, there wasn’t as much of Maven as I would’ve preferred. That being said, I was pleasantly (okay, okay, maybe it wasn’t that pleasantly) surprised by King’s Cage.
Title: Gemina Series: The Illuminae Files (#2) Authors: Amie Kaufman, Jay Kristoff Release Date: October 18,2016 Publisher: Knopf Books for Young Readers Genre: Young Adult Sci-fi My Rating: 5 / 5 Goodreads Review Synopsis: Moving to a space station at the edge of the galaxy was always going to be the death of Hanna’s social life. Nobody said it might actually get her killed. The sci-fi saga that began with the breakout bestseller Illuminae continues on board the Jump Station Heimdall, where two new characters will confront the next wave of the BeiTech assault. Hanna is the station captain’s pampered daughter; Nik the reluctant member of a notorious crime family. But while the pair are struggling with the realities of life aboard the galaxy's most boring space station, little do they know that Kady Grant and the Hypatia are headed right toward Heimdall, carrying news of the Kerenza invasion. When an elite BeiTech strike team invades the station, Hanna and Nik are thrown together to defend their home. But alien predators are picking off the station residents one by one, and a malfunction in the station's wormhole means the space-time continuum might be ripped in two before dinner. Soon Hanna and Nik aren’t just fighting for their own survival; the fate of everyone on the Hypatia—and possibly the known universe—is in their hands. But relax. They've totally got this. They hope. And blood and tears and screams did not matter anymore, because at least they are together.
Part II of the creative and entertaining sci-fi trilogy, Gemina, does not disappoint. This time, unlike in Illuminae, which features Kady Grant and Ezra Mason, Gemina follows the story of soldier in training, Hanna Donnelly, and her bad boy/drug dealer from the House of Knives, Nik Malikov.

Murderer. Martyred. Monarch. Mad.
Even the blackest heart once beat red.
If you know me well, you’re probably aware that (like many readers) I love the Lunar Chronicles. It’s probably one of the best young adult series, written by one of the best young adult writers, Marissa Meyer. So when I heard that Heartless was being written, I got really excited! Although I am not *huge* Alice in Wonderland fan, I got really interested in the concept. So, naturally, I already had high expectations set for this book.
